Job Description

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the RoleAs a Fisheries Compliance Analyst with MPIs Fisheries Compliance Services team, youll contribute to the sustainable management of New Zealands Fisheries resource. Fisheries Compliance concentrates on targeting risk by using intelligence led operational planning. Our compliance analysts knowledge in both intelligence and data are integral to this targeted model and essential to achieving effective compliance and enforcement activity for MPI. This role operates principally in the tactical/operational level.While this is an Analyst role to keep relevant with the ever changing and evolving environment of compliance, we would like you to undertake in-house Fishery Officer training with the intention of obtaining a fishery officer warrant. You will additionally have an opportunity, when work plans allow, to be an extension of the Wellington based team and possibly the greater Regional team, to accompany fishery officers with in-field duties to better inform your role.Some key skills & experience to bring with you for this role are:

  • An ability to interpret and analyse information, provide risk assessments, and deliver reports for a variety of groups in compliance and occasionally external to MPI
  • Experience performing both intelligence summaries and data profiles is important
  • Experience identifying gaps in information and providing that direction to their team so that this intelligence can be gathered
  • Be reactive as well as proactive, and love getting involved in the thick of things
  • The ability to liaise with other agencies to make sure that the information we use is relevant and up to date

  • High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form with a variety of MPI staff and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience in risk mitigation practices
  • Existing knowledge and experience in developing intelligence and profiles from raw information and data
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and critical reasoning skills
  • Time management and planning skills
  • High level of self-motivation

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for at least the last ten (10) years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last ten (10) years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
